Reflecting on my Evidence

Reflecting on my Evidence

Step 1 Data Collected

Inquiry process transforms teachers from being consumers of knowledge to makers of knowledge so argues Babione (2014). This makes it imperative that teachers process their knowledge based on credible evidence from the study as the outcome gives teachers the control and say over the modern dynamics in the education industry. During the checking phase of an inquiry qualitative and or quantitative data should be collected and analysed to further inform the process.

Step 2 Explanation of how data is been analysed

Before embarking on this Inquiry, there was a whole school survey to find out “What” the problem was.

These show that a lot of the students did not feel safe in their learning environment and hence my concentration on setting the environment to make them feel safe. And Also adopting the use of pear deck to give the shy the anonymity to contribute and participate in lessons.

This is an example of Pear Deck report on engagement on critical thinking. A class of 17 all stayed engaged for 107 times spanning two presentations in different days.  The critical thinking slide was only one so they all used it.

When I did a survey how they rated Pear deck 93.8% of affirmed that pear deck helped them to engage and they gave qualitative evidence by further elaborating why they thought so.

I also made my appraiser do a classroom observing with engagement as one of the key indicators for the observation and below are excerpts of his report

Classroom Observation

Random students picked in the lesson gave these comments

Step 3 Reflection on evidence so far

The sample evidence collected is not the end of the story of engagement but an indicator that pear deck can help make students engage in lessons with all other dynamics favourable.  I will therefore, continue to use pear deck in combination with the other strategies lined up in my inquiry to improve on active participation in my lessons.
